WHOLESALE BUYER GUIDE

Ready stock or private label? Build the right cosmetics sourcing brief.

Distributors, wholesalers and trading companies can approach the same product category with different buying goals. Use this guide to choose a sourcing route, structure a mixed assortment and identify the questions that need answers before an order is agreed.

FANXI offers ready-stock wholesale and private-label OEM/ODM. Ready stock supports mixed products and shades. Availability, MOQ, pricing and timing must be confirmed for your requirements.

Start with the buying decision.

Do you need available products or a branded development project?

Start with ready-stock wholesale when your priority is buying an available assortment. Start with private label when the product needs your own branding or changes to formula, shades, packaging or artwork. Ask what is feasible before assuming that a stock item can be customized.

Which decisions are already fixed?

For ready stock, list the products, shades, quantities and destination. For private label, add the benchmark, required changes, packaging direction and approval owner. Keep must-have requirements separate from preferences so alternatives can be assessed clearly.

What needs to happen before your required delivery date?

For ready stock, confirm availability, packing and dispatch arrangements for the proposed order. For private label, review sampling, specification approval, packaging, testing and production dependencies. Ask for a project-specific schedule rather than carrying an estimate from one route into the other.

Plan MOQ and your assortment together.

A single total quantity can hide important differences between products and shades. Prepare an order list that the sourcing team can review line by line, then ask which requirements apply. Do not treat a mixed-order option as a promise of unlimited combinations or no minimum.

Product-level quantity

Record each product separately, with its reference and requested total. Do not assume a total across several products meets every applicable minimum.

Shade-level quantity

Split each product total into the shades you want. Mark whether a shade is essential or whether the team may propose an alternative.

Order and packing requirements

Ask which minimums and packing quantities apply to the proposed mix. Mixed-product and mixed-shade ordering does not remove the need to confirm these requirements.

Destination and customization

Include the destination country and state whether you need stock or private label. FANXI MOQ varies by destination country and product; private-label scope also needs project review.

Compare quotations on the same basis.

Before comparing a ready-stock quote with a private-label proposal, separate finished-product purchasing from development and customization work. Review these details rather than judging only the headline unit price.

  • Confirmed product, shade, specification and packaging references
  • Quantities and the minimums that apply to each order line
  • Unit prices, currency, quote validity and payment terms
  • Separate sampling, testing, customization and shipping charges, where applicable
  • Delivery scope, timing assumptions and outstanding approvals
  • Required product information and destination-market documents to review

A sourcing brief you can use.

Company and buyer role; destination country; sales channels; ready stock or private label; product reference; shade; quantity per shade; essential requirements; acceptable alternatives; branding and packaging changes, if any; documents to review; required delivery timing; open questions.

Repeat the product, shade and quantity fields for every order line. If you are considering both sourcing routes, keep the two requirements separate so availability and development assumptions are not mixed together.

Avoid three common assumptions.

A catalog image confirms stock.

Catalog and category images are references. Ask for current availability and the actual specifications for the proposed order.

Mixed shades share one universal minimum.

Mixed-shade orders are supported for ready stock, but quantities still need confirmation by product and destination. Ask which conditions apply to your proposed list.

Ready stock automatically includes own-brand packaging.

Treat branding or packaging changes as a separate scope to review. Confirm feasibility, minimums, samples and timing before relying on a private-label option.

Choose your next step.

For an available assortment, send a ready-stock enquiry. For your own-brand range, send a private-label brief with the changes you need. If the route is undecided, describe the buying goal and the open questions.
